Westminster:  an ECO call to MISSION:

Building a flourishing group of God’s people seeking to be and to make disciples of Jesus Christ - people who answer God’s call to SERVE those in need:

To encourage our congregation to allow God’s Word to shape their priorities and actions, and to nurture outreach and service, the Service Commission has invited participation in projects with others:  Central’s Food Pantry; Overlook’s “Lunch on Us” ministry; Women’s Resource Center and the Get Your Rear in Gear 5k run for colon cancer awareness and support to Victory Health Partners.  We seek opportunities to engage our youth and children in service projects as expressions of their faith in response to God’s grace.

Our commitment to global evangelism and/discipleship includes these partners:

 -  Doctors Cynthia and Les Morgan, medical Missionaries in Bangladesh.

-  Operation Christmas Child – Samaritans’ Purse

- Voices of the Martyrs

We are blessed to be a blessing.

Read Genesis 4, Jeremiah 29 and Matthew 25 for God’s Word on serving.  Seeking the well-being of the community to which we have been called, we participate in, and fund the various ministries of these organizations:

 - Home of Grace for women seeking recovery from addictions.

- Compassionate Friends offers ministry to grieving families.

- Habitat for Humanity constructs a house for families willing to provide sweat equity and pay interest free mortgages to fund other’s housing construction.

- Penelope House serves the needs of women in abusive relationships.

- L’Arche Community operates group houses for mentally challenged individuals.

- Family Promise/IHN providing families with shelter and food as they work toward a stable housing situation.

- Presbyterian Home for Children ministry to children in crisis family circumstances.

- Women’s Resource Center addresses the needs of woman and their unborn children.

- Bay Area Food Bank/Central Presbyterian Food pantry collects food donations  and distributes it to those in need.

- Victory Health Partners minister to the health care needs of patients with financial constraints

ECO is a new and vital denomination that is aligned with our theology and vision as a congregation.  In ECO, we can thrive as we continue to pursue our vision to be: a welcoming family of Jesus’ disciples, growing in faith, connecting people with Christ.  In seeking God’s will concerning denominational affiliation, the Session looked for the following, and found it in ECO:

·        Solidly evangelical in theology: focused on Jesus as Lord and upholding the inspiration of Scripture as the written Word of God, authoritative in all matters of faith and life.

·        Reformed theological foundation, with Presbyterian government and connectional accountability.

·        A clear understanding that God’s plan is for all people to live in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, or chastity in singleness.

·        Upholding the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death.

·        Forward looking/missional in its priorities for ministry.

·        Celebrating women in leadership.

·       Valuing cultural and ethnic diversity.
